Examples of wear tracks

Wear on static partner

We offer two basic wear & friction test configurations:

  • Pin-on-Disk (ASTM G99)
  • Linear Reciprocating Ball-on-Flat (ASTM G133)

Test setup can be customized to meet customer's application.  The pin-on-disk technique creates a circular wear track by spinning the sample.  With the linear reciprocating technique, the sample is moved back and forth to create a wear track in the shape of a straight line.  Both test configurations can be used to measure the coefficient of friction with and without wear.

The test parameters are the load, the distance travelled, the speed and the static partner.  Test outputs include the wear rate (sample and static partner), the friction versus time or distance travelled as well as pictures and cross-sections of the wear track.
